On May 14, 2020, Connecticut Department of Public Health ("DPH") Acting Commissioner Deidre S. Gifford issued an order rescinding and terminating a May 6, 2020 DPH order that modified sections 19a-36-D29(a) and 19a-36-D32(a) of the Regulations of Connecticut State Agencies to eliminate the requirement that a licensed provider order a COVID-19 test and the obligation to report the results of a COVID-19 test to the provider who ordered the test.

With this most recent order, Gifford reinstated the requirement "that a request for collection or analysis of a COVID-19 specimen be made by a licensed physician or other licensed person authorized by law to make diagnoses, including, but not limited to, physician assistants, advanced practice registered nurses, and pharmacists" and "the obligation to report the COVID-19 results to the licensed provider who ordered the testing."
