WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Womble Carlyle is committed to giving summer associates a rewarding experience that will benefit them as they finish law school and launch their legal careers. On June 12, the firm's Winston-Salem office held a lunchtime panel discussion for its 2017 summer associates with three distinguished Womble Carlyle alums who now practice in-house.

The panelists were:

  • Trey Lambert, Vice President and Senior Counsel at vTv Therapeutics, LLC, High Point, N.C. Lambert was a member of Womble Carlyle's Corporate and Securities group until he joined vTv Therapeutics as Vice President and Senior Counsel in 2016. vTv is a publicly traded clinical stage biopharmaceutical company with more than 50 employees.
  • Alden Smith, Counsel, General Corporate at Reynolds American, Winston-Salem, N.C. Smith was a member of Womble Carlyle's Public Company Advisory Team and a trusted advisor to many clients. After four-and-a-half years with Womble Carlyle, he accepted a position as Corporate Counsel at Premier, Inc., a healthcare performance improvement company. At Premier, Smith handled complex corporate and securities transactions, M&A, corporate governance, contract negotiation, SEC reporting, and Nasdaq compliance. In December 2016, he joined Reynolds American as Counsel, General Corporate.
  • Shandra Stout, M&A and Aerospace Customer Business Development Attorney at UTC Aerospace Systems, Charlotte, N.C. Stout honed her M&A practice during her seven years at Womble Carlyle and was heavily involved in the firm's Summer Associate Program. She spent nearly two years at Heartland Payment Systems as Assistant General Counsel, where she led the company's in-house M&A activities. Since August 2016, Stout has been with UTC Aerospace Systems, where she is responsible for M&A and aerospace customer business development.

All three attorneys were summer associates at Womble Carlyle. Lambert, Smith and Stout shared their experiences in-house, and the different ways in which more junior attorneys can help in-house counsel accomplish their goals. Womble Carlyle attorney Vivian Coates organized the panel discussion, while Director of Client Service Stuart Stogner served as moderator.
