Turkey: Legal Impacts of Digitalization in the Workplace in Turkey

Employee data privacy is one of the most debated issues and recent Constitutional Court decision shed a light on this controversial matter in Turkey. During the webinar, we will discuss employee privacy as well as the borders or conditions of employer’s authority to have access to employee data. The issue has multi-disciplinary aspects including data privacy, employment law and also criminal law in certain cases. We aim to analyze employee privacy from all these aspects.

Begüm Yavuzdogan Okumus

Begüm Yavuzdogan Okumus deals with all aspects of data protection and privacy, including supervising and conducting data privacy compliance projects, advising multinational clients in their activities on a day to day basis. She has sector specific knowledge (i.e. healthcare/ pharmaceuticals/medical devices, telecoms, banking) and advises clients on newly developed devices/apps to ensure compliance. Begüm advises clients on international data transfer of personal data and represents clients before the Turkish DPA. She assists clients in data breach notifications and investigations, provides appeal strategies to object to Turkish DPA decisions rendered against our clients. Begüm represents multinational companies operating in various industries including pharmaceutical, medical device, retail, banking and automotive industry. She holds Certified Information Privacy Professional Europe (CIPP/E) designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals and she is one of the co-chairs of IAPP Knowledgenet Istanbul Chapter.

Filiz Toprak Esin

Filiz Toprak Esin has been with the firm since 2006 and became a partner in 2020. Her practice is focused on business crime and anti-corruption, competition and corporate and M&A. Filiz has broad experience in compliance matters including competition and white collar crimes. She has assisted various major multinational clients in their fight against corruption and provides preventive advice about their compliance process. At the same time, she represents executives of clients before relevant authorities and courts regarding white collar crimes related investigations and court actions. Concerning competition law matters, in addition to her consultancy and training expertise, she is representing clients about any projects before the Turkish Competition Authority as well as any administrative court actions regarding decisions of the Competition Board.

Beril Yayla Sapan

Beril Yayla Sapan joined the firm in 2008 and is now a managing associate. Her practice focuses on dispute management, employment, business crime and anti-corruption. Beril has been involved in several high profile commercial conflicts and debt collection procedures and successfully represents clients before the various courts in this field. She is experienced in areas where commercial and criminal laws overlap and has advised several multinational companies on white collar crime, compliance and legal audits.
