Cyprus: International Arbitration and Cyprus

This exciting webinar, brought to you by Patrikios Pavlou & Associates LLC, aims to present in an interactive manner the importance and role of Cyprus within the field of International Arbitration, the needs for modernization of the legal and regulatory framework, the importance of dispute resolution through arbitration in bilateral and multilateral treaties that Cyprus is a part of, and practical questions regarding registration of awards and protective measures.

SPEAKERS
Stavros Pavlou

Stavros Pavlou is the Senior and Managing partner of Patrikios Pavlou & Associates LLC. He is an experienced litigator and arbitrator, widely regarded as one of the top litigators in Cyprus, with an impressive portfolio of representing corporate clients and HNWIs in complex commercial dispute resolution matters, including judicial and arbitration proceedings in the courts of Cyprus and abroad. Stavros is a Barrister (Gray’s Inn), an Economist (LSE) and has been admitted in the Cyprus Bar in 1986. Additionally, he is a Fellow of CIArb and AIADR, a member of the IBA, LCIA, ICCA and Russian Arbitration Association, among many others and he is also registered as a practising barrister before the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) court. He actively participates and speaks in local and overseas conferences and he has authored numerous articles in international publications. He also promotes ADR practices in Cyprus by participating in podcasts and webinars.

Eleana Christofi

Eleana Christofi is a Partner in the dispute resolution department of Patrikios Pavlou & Associates LLC. Eleana holds an LLM in international business law from the University of Manchester and an MSc in management from Lancaster University. She joined the firm as a trainee in 2009, was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 2010 and was promoted to partner in 2019. Eleana has authored and co-authored various articles on litigation and arbitration and is involved in civil, commercial and corporate litigation cases, both domestic and international; shareholder disputes; injunctive reliefs; insolvency proceedings; and recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards.

Theodoros Symeonides

Theodoros Symeonides is a Partner in the dispute resolution department of Patrikios Pavlou & Associates LLC. Theodoros has a master's degree in law and economics from University College London and has completed the legal practice course at Nottingham Law School. He was admitted to the Cyprus Bar in 2013. Theodoros advises and represents both local and international high-profile clients before the Cyprus courts and specialises in international commercial/corporate disputes including proceedings for the issue of interim freezing injunctions, international arbitration and insolvency matters. He has co-authored various articles on arbitration and dispute resolution, and also on shipping and maritime law.

Anna Iacovou Stylianou

Anna Iacovou Stylianou has 19 years’ experience as dispute resolver. She has been involved in a wide range of disputes such as construction, commerce, finance, entertainment, real estate, marine and oil and gas. She has been involved in several arbitrations, mediations, adjudications and expert witness determinations. Anna is a Chartered Arbitrator (C.ARB), Chartered Surveyor (MRICS), CEDR Accredited Mediator and she has a diploma in Negotiation and an LLM in International Dispute Resolution from Queen Mary University. She is a member of important local and international arbitration and mediation committees and panels.

Anna Plevri

Dr Anna Plevri is an Assistant Professor of Civil Procedure, Private Law and ADR at the University of Nicosia since 2014. Further, she is a licensed Attorney at law in Greece and Cyprus, an accredited Mediator on Civil, Commercial, Family, Workplace, Financial Disputes and ODR, a certified Mediator’s Trainer and an Arbitrator (MCIArb). Dr Plevri has obtained a law degree (LLB), an LLM (Hons) on Civil, Civil Procedural and Labor Law, an LLM on International Law, and a Doctorate (Hons) on Civil Procedural law from the Law School of AUTH (Greece). She focuses on Civil procedural law, arbitration, mediation, energy law, justice systems and private international law and she has trained in various ADR training centres abroad. Along with various memberships, she is a member of the Mediator’s Registry of both the Greek and Cypriot Ministries of Justice, she is a legal scholar, an author, a trainer and speaker in international conferences.
