Individuals holding Settlement Permit- Gainful Employment Excepted can apply for the Long-term Resident- EU residence title after fulfilling the following conditions:

  1. The applicant must have been legally resident in Austria for five years prior to the application without any interruption.
  2. The applicant must have fulfilled and continue to fulfill all general requirements related to financial solvency, accommodation in Austria, and health insurance in Austria as applicable under the Settlement Permit- Gainful Employment Excepted option.
  3. The applicant must possess in depth autonomous German language use skills, i.e. B1 level German language skills as per the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The applicant must complete Module 2 of the Integration Agreement to comply with the language requirements imposed by Long-term Resident- EU permit.

Validity: Long-Term Resident - EU 

The Long-term Resident – EU permit is valid for a period of five years. The permit allows long-term settlement and free access to the labor market.

Application Procedure: Long-Term Resident - EU

The applicant must submit all the documents required under the Settlement Permit- Gainful Employment Excepted residence permit.

The following additional documents must be submitted:

  1. Proof of completion of Module 2 of the Integration Agreement related to German language skills.
  2. Proof of uninterrupted legal residence in Austria for a period of not less than five years prior to the filing of application.

Fees: Long-Term Resident- EU 

Granting fee of €150 with €80 payable at the time of application and €70 payable after grant of the permit.

German Language Requirements

German Language Requirements: Long-Term Resident - EU 

Completion of Module 2 requires the fulfillment of one of the following conditions:

  1. Diploma or certificates issued by institutions Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF) or Austrian Language Diploma German or Goethe-Institut e.V or Telc GmbHlike upon successful completion of B1 level test according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
  2. For minor applicants, attending primary school that is within the scope of compulsory education or attending secondary school and having completed German classes will be adequate proof of completion of the German language requirements.
  3. Evidence of attending compulsory school in Austria for a period of not less than five years and successfully completing German classes or successfully completing German classes on a 9th grade level will be considered adequate proof.
  4. Successfully completing German classes at a foreign school where German is taught to the level at par with the 9th grade level of an Austrian compulsory school
  5. Passing final apprenticeship examination under the Vocational Training Act.

The following applicants need not complete Module 2 of the Integration Agreement:

  1. Minors who are not subject to compulsory education at the time of application. Compulsory education begins on the first of September after the sixth birthday of the applicant.
  2. Individuals who cannot, on grounds of physical or mental health conditions, provide such evidence. The existence of such a condition must be evidenced by a medical report issued by a public health officer or medical expert appointed by Austrian authorities.
