18 Apr 2024 Webinar: Chicago United States

Banks and financial institutions continue to be prime targets for class action lawsuits. This has become more prominent in recent years as financial regulators have issued new guidance on numerous issues, often leading to follow-on class actions suits by private litigants. In addition, banks and financial institutions are now facing “mass arbitration” campaigns by plaintiffs’ lawyers seeking to aggregate thousands of customers at a time, as well as an increased number of collective actions in the United Kingdom and European Union.

Please join us for the third webinar in the Banking & Financial Services Litigation series as Tom Panoff, Andy Demko, Archis Parasharami and Airlie Goodman discuss:

  • Class actions based on account fees and disclosures
  • Mass arbitrations
  • UK/EU collective actions
23 Apr 2024 Webinar: Chicago United States

Please join us for a webinar discussing OECD’s Pillar Two, which proposes a framework for a global minimum tax, and its implications for low-tax jurisdictions. On March 22, 2024, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) released its working paper, Deciphering the GloBE in a Low Tax Jurisdiction. The paper considers whether generating a bare minimum tax is the appropriate policy objective and explores options for implementing Pillar Two rules and/or designing corporate income tax systems. We will hear from the IMF authors of the paper, followed by a lively discussion with our panelists on how low-tax jurisdictions are responding (including real case studies) and what this means for multinational companies. We will share insight on how this is impacting US tax policy and what Congress is considering.

24 Apr 2024 Panel: Chicago United States

In recent years, US district courts have scrutinized parties’ damages calculations in intellectual property litigation—with the admissibility of damages experts’ opinions routinely challenged. Courts regularly exclude damages experts’ opinions that fail to meet the demanding standards set forth in the US Supreme Court’s 1993 Daubert decision.

In a recent, first-of-its-kind study, damages experts Deepa Sundararaman and Cleve Tyler reviewed more than 400 orders covering nearly 1,300 decisions on specific challenges regarding IP damages expert opinions and examined reasons why experts were challenged and the outcome of those challenges.

Please join a discussion between the researchers and our partners Melissa Anyetei and Manuel Velez on best practices in working with IP damages experts in view of the study’s results.
