Claire Castles and Christopher Lovrien, partners in Jones Day's Los Angeles Office, were included in Los Angeles Business Journal's "Thriving in their 40s" list. The list honors Los Angeles business leaders who have achieved outstanding professional successes and made significant contributions to the community.

Ms. Castles is in Jones Day's Healthcare & Life Sciences Practice. Her focus is in advising clients on complex health care and life science regulatory compliance issues in transactions, investigations, and litigation matters, including issues that relate to significant regulatory enforcement, and present potential reputational concerns. She has been involved in many significant response and triage solutions, helping clients in California and across the country respond to COVID-19. As part of this work, Ms. Castles has assisted clients in developing specialized testing, triage, front line support services, and digital health initiatives to improve needed access to COVID-19 testing and therapeutic interventions for adults and children. She is a voting member of the National Native American Bar Association and a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and participates in many legal community connections through Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, Association of Business Trial Lawyers, and California Society of Healthcare Attorneys.

Mr. Lovrien is in Jones Day's Business & Tort Litigation Practice, and is a trial lawyer who represents companies in high-stakes commercial disputes. He has litigated matters in courts in California and throughout the United States.

He currently leads the defense of an American multinational retailer in hundreds of state court matters brought by cities, counties, and other plaintiffs related to prescription opioids. In other recent matters, he successfully defended a major energy company, including on appeal, in a case brought under the Alien Tort Statute and Antiterrorism Act arising from oil purchases under the United Nations' oil-for-food program. And he obtained dismissal on First Amendment grounds of a case against Fox Corporation and Fox News related to coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, he was lead trial counsel for Los Angeles-based American Apparel in its chapter 11 proceedings. In 2020, Mr. Lovrien was named one of the "Top 100" lawyers in California by The Daily Journal for the second consecutive year, and a National Law Journal Trailblazer in its Political Activism and First Amendment Rights list.
