In an effort to address gaps in eligibility for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit ("CERB"), the federal government has modified the eligibility requirements.

Individuals earning up to $1,000 per month may now apply for the CERB as well as those individuals who had previously been receiving Employment Insurance benefits that have run out since January 1, 2020.  The government is also allowing seasonal workers who will not have seasonal work in 2020 due to COVID-19 to apply for the CERB.  For artists and others creating works, there will be an exclusion for copyright in works completed before the crisis, if necessary, to allow those individuals to qualify for the CERB.
