Shipping & Transport, Cyprus

The Department of Merchant Shipping recently notified all registered owners and operators of ships flying the Cyprus flag and foreign-flagged ships calling at ports in Cyprus of the latest amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (as amended) and Part A of the Seafarers Training, Certification and Watchkeeping Code.

The amendments came into force on January 1 2017 under the tacit acceptance procedure and set out the mandatory minimum training and qualification requirements for masters, officers, ratings and other personnel on ships which are subject to the International Code of Safety for Ships using Gases or other Low-Flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code).

The amendments apply to Cyprus-flagged vessels, foreign-flagged vessels visiting Cyprus ports and all seafarers employed on board Cyprus-flagged vessels which are subject to the IGF Code.
