According to the 2016 Global Innovation Index -published by
the Cornell University, INSEAD and the World Intellectual Property
Organization (WIPO)-, and although some countries have had an
interest in promoting innovation, the region has not exploited its
potential and has been unable to improve statistically in relation
to previous years. The report recommendation for Latin American
governments is to adopt long term goals in those topics.
The highlighted countries in the Index were Chile, Colombia,
México, Peru and Uruguay. Brazil was distinguished for
its importance in the region, and Peru and Uruguay because of their
emergent role. In the ranking, the first position for a
Latin American country was for Chile, 44th worldwide, and the
second place was for Costa Rica, increasing 6 positions according
to 2015 rankings.
