JUVE Patent has named Herbert Smith Freehills Partner Andrew Wells as one of only five lawyers chosen as ‘Ones to Watch’ in the UK patent market for 2024. This award recognises the most impressive up and coming individuals in patent litigation based.

Andrew helps clients with various issues relating to innovation in a range of different technologies. He is enthusiastic about the on-going potential of innovation to help society to overcome pressing challenges and to drive the 21st century economy forward. Andrew sees intellectual property rights as playing a key role in fostering the development of new technologies. He has a keen interest in the technical as well as legal details of his matters, stemming from his scientific background and, ultimately, his enjoyment of understanding ‘how things work’. As noted in the JUVE article, Andrew has significant patent litigation experience, having handled a number of important cases relating to subject matter including virology, genetics, semiconductors and biologics.

Andrew is also an HSF mental health advocate, working to reduce the stigma around these conditions. This dual mission characterises Andrew’s approach to his work in the patent field. He co-chairs HSF’s Mental Health Champion Steering Committee for the West Region (UK, US & EMEA) and was recently named a mental health Emerging Leader by InsideOut.
