I wanted to mark Black History Month by studying the history of
racism in British advertising. Its a big topic, so rather than
publishing a blog post, I have written a longer piece. Its
important to include examples of the offensive ads themselves in
order for the analysis to make any sense, so I apologise in advance
for any offence caused to readers of the article.
Some of the conclusions that I reached both depressed and
surprised me, but I hope you will find the subject as interesting
as I did, as well finding some grounds for optimism.
