The Department of Energy has released advance information on a funding opportunity expected in Fall 2013. The program will provide direct funding for capital projects and other initiatives that increase energy efficiency and reliance on renewable energy sources. Two types of projects will be eligible: (1) combined heat and power (CHP) and (2) renewable energy, including solar, wind, biomass, landfill gas, geothermal, waste to energy, and new hydroelectric energy technologies.
The advance notice, which was released July 9, is intended to encourage prospective applicants to "begin formulating ideas, gathering data, and developing partnerships in anticipation of the issuance" of the funding opportunity. DOE's Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) will make technical assistance available to federal agencies that request it, up until the time the notice is published. This early information release creates opportunities for energy providers to work with federal facilities that may have an interest, to optimize their chances of securing grant funding.
