Regulatory expert Martin Byers and finance and fintech specialist Chris Wall have been promoted to partner in Ogier's Cayman Islands team, having both progressed through the firm's partner development programme.

Martin, who joined Ogier in 2021, advises financial institutions, multinational corporations, governments, public authorities, funds, sponsors, investment managers, administrators and other service providers on regulatory and compliance matters, including all regulatory aspects of the formation, management, operation and termination of companies and investment vehicles in the Cayman Islands.

Noted as a key lawyer for regulatory and compliance in the Legal 500 Caribbean 2024 guide, clients describe Martin as "without question one of the best on the island."

Chris initially joined Ogier's Banking and Finance team in June 2021 and co-heads Ogier's Technology and Web3 team. Recognised as a key lawyer by Legal 500, he has a broad range of experience in advising on traditional finance matters, including structured finance and fund finance, and technology companies operating in Web3.

Chris has worked on a variety of centralised Web3 projects, including providing advice to centralised exchanges and custodians and assists in the obtaining of virtual asset service provider registrations. He further specialises in structuring decentralised finance (DeFi) projects related to decentralised exchanges and other DeFi platforms.

Ogier's Cayman Islands practice partner, James Bergstrom, said: "I'm delighted to see Martin and Chris join the Ogier partnership. These promotions are thoroughly deserved and reflect the exceptional talent of these two individuals, and the enormous contribution both have made to their practice areas. We take pride in supporting the personal and professional development of our people, and these promotions further demonstrate Ogier's commitment to recognising and rewarding talent."
